About Sustainable Schools
The Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative (AuSSI) Pilot
Schools in Victoria and NSW have undertaken an incredible journey. Around 350 schools in the two states took part in the AuSSI pilot from 2002-2004. NSW and Victoria were funded to develop alternative approaches to whole school sustainability. Both models have successfully demonstrated how to support a whole of school approach to environmental education in two of the largest education systems in Australia. Gould League and CERES were responsible for delivery of the Sustainable Schools pilot to 160 schools in Victoria.
A national roll-out of Sustainable Schools
Based on the success of the AuSSI pilot, the Federal Department of Environment and Heritage has now committed funding for a roll-out of Sustainable Schools across Australia.
